Worked with 10 faculty/instructors serving 381 majors in Finance

 

Assisted the UNI College of Business faculty and administration in achieving AACSB accreditation  for the first time in Spring 1993

 

Worked with the UNI Foundation and the Finance faculty to raise $350,000 in gifts and endowments to the UNI College of Business in order to develop the UNI Financial Services Program.

            UNI Financial Services Advisory Board, 1992-1998

                Worked with UNI Foundation and Board Members to Raise over $350,000 to support the creation of

                the UNI Financial Services Program. 

 

            UNI Real Estate Program Review Committee, 1994-95

 

                Assisted the UNI Real Estate Advisory Board in evaluating and defining the financial needs

                of  the UNI Real Estate Program.  Approximately $100,000 in annual support was received

                during 1990-1998 or about $800,000 in extramural funding for the UNI College of Business. 

 

            UNI Merchant’s Scholarship Award Committee in 1994

 

                Responsible for organizing all scholarship committee activities and delivering a final report

                 to UNI President Constantine Curris.

            Department Heads’ Council, 1993-94

                Served as chair of the 33 member Council of Department Heads at UNI, revising the Council By-Laws,

                providing input to the Provost on such issues as outcomes assessment, strategic planning and the

                new Center for the Enhancement of Teaching. 

            Academic Relations Committee, Iowa Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, Des Moines, IA. 1990-93

                Worked with the FEI - Iowa Board to develop outreach programs between the chapter an the

                following universities:   University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Drake University, UNI and

                Simpson College.   During this period, academic membership increased by 25% in the

                Iowa-FEI Chapter. 

            Finance Advisory Board, Winnebago Council, Boy Scouts of America, 1996-2000

                Helped the Council amend its Trust Agreement to include an Investment Policy and set

                of guidelines for selecting and evaluating a trustee for its $1,200,000 endowment. 

            UNI Credit Union, Delinquent Loan Committee, Credit Union Board, 1994-

                Assisted the Credit Union Board in defining policies and procedures designed to reduce

                loan write-offs and improve profitability.  Since 1994, the UNI Credit Union has reduced

                its loan loss exposure by 55%, increasing the mix of home equity and new car loans.

                students under a $150,000 endowment from Firstar Bank Corporation, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  The

                Assisted the search committee in identifying characteristics, sources of applicants and making a

       Blackhawk County Treasurer’s Investment Advisory Committee, 1992-

          Helped the Treasurer, Ms. Barbara Freet, develop a set of Investment Guidelines in the aftermath of the Iowa

         Trust  Fund Bankruptcy. The Blackhawk County Treasurer was able to recover the entire $1.5 million

          owed by the Iowa Trust Fund  Assist with the periodic review of the Investment Guidelines for Blackhawk 

          County.

            Worked with faculty to review, evaluate and benchmark the UNI program with other MBA curriculums

            across the U.S. and Europe. The John Deere MBA program evolved from these discussions in 1995.

            Worked with a faculty/administrative committee and President Koob’s wife to plan for the first time an

            Iowa Area Education Association - 7 Summer Enrichment Program for Talented and Gifted Secondary

            School Children, created and taught a math puzzles class to students in Northeast Iowa for four weeks in

            the summers of   1992 and 1993.

 

            Provided Actuarial/Financial Services to the Waterloo Fire Fighter’s Association related to their pension

            benefits under varying actuarial and investment assumptions, 1994-95.

Adacon Advantage Incorporated vs. U.S. Tax Court Case, served as financial expert to Mr. Scott Estill, Esq. (Denver, Colorado), providing valuation and financial analysis of the various lines of business services Adacon offers to the hearing impaired (2005)

Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society of Red Oak, Iowa vs. Montgomery County Board of Review, served as an actuarial and financial expert to Michael Davenport, Esq. and Bruce Green, Esq. (Council Bluffs, IA) and the Montgomery County Board of Review, analyzing the profitability of the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society.  The case settled in favor of the Montgomery County Board of Review (2004)

Boone Sundance Apartments LP vs. Boone County Board of Review, served as a financial expert to Brett Ryan, Esq. (Council Bluffs, IA) and the Boone County Board of Review analyzing the long term profitability and financing of Sundance Apartments housing facility.  The case settled in favor of the Boone County Board of Review (2003).   

Postville Partners, L.P. vs. Clayton County Board of  Review, served as an actuarial and financial expert to Bruce Green, Esq. (Council Bluffs, IA) analyzing the profitability of Pheasant Run Apartments owned by the Postville Partners.  The case settled in favor of  the Clayton County Board of Review (2003).                    

Orange City Hospital: Landsmeer Ridge vs. Souix City County Board of Review, served as an actuarial and financial expert to Michael Davenport, Esq. (Council Bluffs, IA) analyzing the profitability of  Landsmeer Ridge.  The case settled in favor of the Souix City County Board of Review (2002).

Provided financial and actuarial advice to Mark Shephard, legal counsel to the Worthington Fire Department of Worthington, MN relating to the use of mortality tables to determine benefits for a defined benefit pension plan (2001).

EMC versus American Equitel, et. al., served as financial and actuarial expert to plaintiff’s attorney John R. Hearn, rendering an opinion concerning agency profitability, lost benefits due to contract termination and insurer profitability from the marketing of insurance policies (2000).

Philip Meyer’s Estate Valuation, served as financial expert to Mr. James E. Goodman, (Dubuque, Ia), valuing shares of  stock in Dubuque Data Services for the purpose of determining the basis of  Meyer’s Estate.  The probate court accepted my  valuation results in November 2000.

Shirley Fox v. Abe Fox, served as actuarial and financial expert to Patricia E. Garrity,Esq.,(Mandan, North Dakota) analyzing issues related to an insurance trust and a determination of  the actuarial value of the policies housed in the trust for purposes of marital property in the state of North Dakota (2000).                     

Regional Retirement Living, Inc. Pennsylvania Place, Sylvan Woods v. Wapello  CountyBoard of Review, served as an actuarial and financial  expert to Frank W. Pechacek, Esq., and Michael Davenport, Esq., (Council Bluffs, Ia.) analyzing financial statements, bonding prospectuses, and tax information relative to the Continuing Care Residential Community (2000).  The case settled in favor of  the Wapello County Board of Review.

Fernandez vs. Industrial Fumigant Co., et. al., served as actuarial and financial consultant to Mr. Robert Kudrer,  of Johnson & Condon of Minneapolis, Minn., providing an actuarial benefit analysis of Mr. Fernandez’s lifetime estate. The case settled out of court (1999).

 

Friends of Faith Retirement, Homes, Inc. vs. Board of Review for the City of Waterloo, served as actuarial and  financial expert to Frank W, Pechacek, Jr., Esq., and Barbara L. Jeppesen, Esq.,( Council Bluffs, Ia.) analyzing  actuarial reports on the Continuing Care Residential Community (1997).

Gallion, served as actuarial and financial planning expert in this dissolution  case - developed an actuarial model for determining the actuarial value of renewal commission income for   Mr. Gregory Gallion and retirement benefits for both Ms. Nancy Gallion and Mr. Gregory Gallion. I worked with Doris McGinnis, Esq., Minneapolis, Minnesota (1996).

 

Schmidt vs. Gillepsie, et. al., worked with Samuel Sheronick, Esq. providing insurance and financial expertise, the case settled out of court (1996).

 

Donna D. Flanagan vs. George P. Flanagan, served as actuarial and financial planning expert in the dissolution case involving Donna D. Flanagan - developed an actuarial model for determining the present value of postal retirement benefits for George Flanagan.  I worked with the Roeder Law Office of Manchester, Iowa (1994). 

 

Arlen L. Wonderlich vs. Allamakee Veterinary Clinic, P.C., Case #42-0985424, served as actuarial/insurance  and financial expert to defendant's attorney, David Dutton, Esq., rendering an opinion on the ownership and benefits  associated with a business disability policy, a valuation of benefits from certain disability policies to the Allamakee Veterinary Clinic and an analysis of the financial implications of the disability policies to the buy/sell agreement of the

 business partnership, (1994).

 

Western Marketing vs. Employer's Modern Life Insurance Company, served as actuarial/insurance expert to plaintiff's  attorney, John Hearn, rendering an opinion on the value of life insurance benefits sold by Western Marketing, an  assessment of damages from termination of an agency agreement and a valuation of the book of business generated by Western  Marketing to Employer's Modern Life Insurance Company, this case settled out of court (1993).

 

David Britton vs. Vulcan Life, Case #C-2-88-1290, Insurance consultant to Clifford M. Farrell of  Columbus, Ohio - provided expert opinion on the duties of the insurer to the policyholder (1990).

 

Examination of the actuarial basis for an insurance replacement decision for a legal client of the law firm of  Frost and Jacobs, Cincinnati, Ohio (1990).

 

Kato Industries vs. A.O. Williams in Elizabethtown, Kentucky - served as insurance consultant and financial expert to John Scott rendering an opinion concerning the existence of an insurance contract and the obligations

 of an insurer to policyholders (1990). 

 

Emmett D. McClendon vs. Conrail, served as a consultant to Gary Bullock of Dinsmore, Shohl relating to the evaluation of economic damages in preparation for cross examination of plaintiff witnesses (1988). 

 

Charter Oak Savings and Loan Co. vs. The Ohio Deposit Guarantee Fund, financial and insurance consultant to Michael Kahn of Gene Mesh and Associates, providing background supporting Charter Oak's position as a policyholder with the Ohio Deposit Guarantee Fund [ODGF], (1987). 

 

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. vs. Edward T. Cain, consultant to Tom Eagan of Paxton, and Seasongood rendering an expert opinion on the existence of automobile coverage on Edward T. Cain's truck in defense of  State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. (1987). 

 

Staley vs. Staley, developed an actuarial model to determine the value of Lt. Col. Staley's military pension, life and health benefits prior to marriage dissolution (1987). 

 

Prudential Insurance Company of America vs. Leslie Eslick, consultant to Porter, Wright, Morris

 and Associates providing actuarial analysis of a model for comparing retirement benefit contracts

 in defense of Prudential (1985). 

 

State of Indiana, et.al. vs. National Equity Life Insurance Co. (Baldwin-United Corporation),  consultant to Mantel, Mantel and Reiswerg providing financial and actuarial analysis of the state of Indiana's rehabilitation plan of the Baldwin insurance companies.  I was qualified in the Federal Court System as a legal expert in Finance and Actuarial Science in this case.  At the time, this was the single largest insurance rehabilitation in the history of the U.S.(1984).

The article delineates the differences between state and federally insured S&Ls. The article appeared three years before the failure of Old Court Savings and the collapse of the Maryland State Insurance Fund, and five years before the Home State Savings failure in Ohio.
