Journal Assignment and Topics
Write
for at least 20 minutes, three times a week in your writing journal.
Purpose:
To develop speed in writing
Grammar and
Spelling:
Don’t worry about spelling or grammar.
Just write down your
ideas as you think them.
Try to write as quickly as
you can.
Format: You can use a standard size notebook, which is about 8 ½ x
11 inches. Do not send me
journals by e-mail. You may
type your journals on the computer, but you must put in a folder.
Topics:
Weeks One and Two
- Choose six - Due MONDAY, November 1, 2004.

What significant changes have taken place in our life since
you were thirteen years old?
Ø
What are the things that are most different about Iowa and
your home country?
Ø
What are some interesting experiences you have had in your
lifetime?
Ø
Who are some of the people you have met, and what are some
of the things you have done in the past couple of months?
Ø
What are your studying right now? How long have you been
doing that?
Ø
(Grammar Practice!) What were you doing last night at one o
clock? What time did you stop doing that? Why did you stop? How long had
you been doing that before you stopped?
Ø
What are you going to be doing at nine o’clock tomorrow
night? What time are you doing to stop doing that? Why? How long will you
have been doing that before you stop?
Week Three- Write for one hour. November 8, 2004

Write a letter to a friend or family member. Discuss your
activities, thoughts, feelings, and adventures in the present past, and
future. The purpose of this is to use every possible grammar tense. Write
about what you do, are doing, have done, have been doing, did, were doing,
had done, had been doing, will do, are going to do, will be doing, will
have done(by the time…) and will have been going (by the time… ).
Include appropriate time expressions, today, every day, right now,
already, so far, since, next week, etc.
Use the verb tenses in any
order you wish and as many times as you need. Try to write an interesting
e-mail.
