Don Moes (Iowa Fastpitch Hall Of Fame 2004 Inductee)

I started playing fastpitch softball when I was 19 years old.

I played for Grinnell teams in the Grinnell league.

I sponsored a team in the Grinnell league the past two years that I played.

We  did not play in the district tournament at that time because the President of the Grinnell league made you forfeit your league games if you played in the, district.

When I played in the Grinnell league I was the only pitcher of the league that threw three no hitters in one season.

In 1977 I was inducted into the Grinnell Softball Hall of Fame.

After I retired from pitching I combined my team and the Sully Lions team and it was known as Sully Plumbing and Heating Softball.

At the time that I joined the Sully Lions with my team I received a lot of static that it would be harmful to the Sully Plumbing and Heating team because the Sully Lions team had forfeited a game on Sunday in the State tournament and I had to guarantee them that if we played in the district and advanced to the State tournament we would play on Sunday.

The first year that I had this team we played in the State tournament at Birdland Park.

KGRN radio station from Grinnell was there to broadcast the game live but the ASA would not allow this because it was amateur softball.  We won the Class B tournament and won Class A two years straight. We went to the Nationals in Missouri and Ohio.

There were only a couple of years that the team didn't advance to Class A or to the Open State.

In the 25 years that I managed and sponsored the team I had a wonderful bunch of ball players and just a few that I won't talk about. If I had a chance to do this over again I would do it tomorrow.
