Graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1970
Joined the Larry Lange Ford team of the Major Open Division
in 1970
Moved to Cedar Rapids in 1971 to play with Welty Way / Modem Piping and won the National Tournament
and represented the U.S. in the World Tournament that same year
During his playing career from 1971-1984; Bob played every
position except pitcher and catcher
He had a career batting average near .300, but was mainly known
for his defensive skills and leadership qualities both on and off the field
Some of his accomplishments included:
14 consecutive Cedar Rapids Major Open Titles
5 state tournament titles (ASA-3, ISC-2)
Competed in 7 National Tournaments (ASA-4, ISC-3)
Bob began his coaching career in the Cedar Rapids School
System. He helped initiate the softball programs at Washington High School and
two local junior high schools before accepting the Mt. Mercy College softball
position in 1983
During his 12 year stay at Mt. Mercy College his teams
compiled a highly successful record of 357 wins and 162 losses. He was selected
NAIA District 15 Coach of the Year seven times and took the team to the
national tournament four times.
Currently Bob is the head coach at Coe College in Cedar
Rapids, IA where he was named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year in 1999 and
2000. He is entering his sixth season at Coe where be has a 148-61 record. (His
overall coaching record is 524-223).
He has produced ten All-Americans and four Academic
All-Americans in his 11 years of coaching.
