Life History: Married on June 6, 1967. Had 1st child - son - Gary. I was a
stay-at-home mom and did some babysitting for a few years. When Gary started
school, I volunteered as a reading aide for 1 year. Then I was hired as a
lunchroom and playground supervisor for 2 years. March 1977, I attended
Salvadore Beauty College in Des Moines. In September, 1977, my son was in
a car accident and passed away from his injuries 11 days later. I took some
time off from school - but did go back and graduated April 1978. My first
job was at Ron Do Beauty Salon and I worked there for 2 and a half years.
In September 1980, I had my second child - a daughter - Megan. I stayed
home with her for 2 and a half years and then went back to work. I worked
at Hair Depot then until 1998, when my boss sold the shop to Chery (Wilke)
Mohrman (BHS '69). Chery hired me to work with her and I'm still there at
Hair Affair! In June 1994, I discovered I had breast cancer. I had
surgery and did 6 months of chemotherapy. I've been cancer-free now for
8 years.
My husband, Paul, did car body repair for 25 years. He now works at Gates
Rubber Company. My daughter, Megan, is a senior at ISU and will graduate
in December with a BA in Animal Ecology. She hopes to work at a zoo caring
for animals.
