Update 2022

Greetings everyone. Hope you have a super reunion. John and I are in Colorado with family. Our son Josh and his 20 year old son, Skyler are participating in a race called the Leadville 100. And yes the 100 stands for MILES on and off trails through the mountains around the town of Leadville. Josh did this race 10 years ago. He was 38 THEN! It is grueling…. It is over 24 plus hours…. Rain, sun, wind, cold or hot… the race happens. They run over a 12,000 feet of elevation pass. So tomorrow at 4am they start. Please pray for them….their courage and safety. We are so proud we have raised our children to meet challenges…. Work hard and get THEM DONE! You may have noticed in the photos…. Our youngest daughter Kati, her hubby Casey and the oldest of their two daughters, Kenzi (15 yrs old) climbed Mt Elbert …. A peak of over 14000 feet of elevation. At the the same time yesterday… our 28 yr old Grandson, Andrew climbed another “14er”. What a family. Love them.

During COVID…. We sold our Airstream. Decided camping was not really our thing. And this past January we went back to what we love most…. Owning a “winter” getaway in Florida. The Villages to be specific. Over “700 holes” of golf and John plans to play every one of them.

Also during COVID , we lost our 15.5 year old mini Aussie, Cody… vowing we were done with dogs. NOPE…. We now have TWO mini Aussiedoodle… they are still pups… and keeping up busy! John loves them…. Yet still scratching his head as to why he let me talk him into one… let alone two!

Yes, we still live on Montana Road in Boone. Yes our oldest daughter Lori and her soon to be hubby, Kyle are our neighbors. (As is my 96 year old Mother).

We have 11 grandkids… ages 28-11. And we are now blessed with 2 Great Grandsons.. ages 4 and 3.

Kati and Casey, Kenzi and Hayley live in Waukee.

Josh and Karin are still in Colorado. Oldest son, Skyler lives in Leadville and Lucius, Sem, Mickey, and Billie Charlene live in Peyton CO.

Lori’s kids are all grown up and out of the house. She is the grandma of our two great grandsons.

Enjoy the weekend. Sending blessings to all.

Chris

Update 2017:
Hello all!

The pictures pretty much tell our story of a busy days, growing family, lots of travels and a ton of good fortune in this journey of our blessed life. John (Winter-Class of ’66) and I have been married nearly 48 years. We started dating in December 1965, when he gave me a ride home from a BHS boys basketball game. And here we are today.

In 2015 we sold our seasonal home in Florida and purchased a motor home. We have been vacationing with our kids and their families since. John and I have also spent the past couple of winters in Arizona and Texas. We have reacquainted with John (class of ’66) Moffitt and his wife Linda (Case) Moffitt and have enjoyed RV traveling with them. Later this summer the four of us (and our pooches) will head to Montana and Wyoming.

John and I have also traveled with some of our close Navy friends to Scotland, Ireland, Hawaii and a River Cruise. When we are not traveling, we continue to enjoy golf, the grandkids and of course enjoy our home here in Boone. Needless to say, retirement is great! My parents, John and Char Munson and still living independently in their home on the farm (where I grew up). Dad will be 97 this year and Mom will be 92.
My sister Julie moved back to Boone in 2015 after many years in Oklahoma. My brother “J” passed away in 2015.

Looking forward to seeing you in September.

Update 2012:
Greetings classmates! It is so unbelievable to me that it is time for another update! Not to mention nearly time for our 45th Reunion! All I can tell you is that I have not gotten any OLDER! How about you?

Since my last update, John retired from John Deere. We have been spending our time between Boone and Florida and most importantly.... we now have 13 grandchildren.

In December 2008, John decided that is was time "once again" to retire. He retired from the Navy in 1990 after 20 years of dedicated service. When he retired from Deere, our past 19 years had been spent in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and finally back "home", residing in Des Moines. As I stated in my last update, we build our final home in Boone, just south of my childhood home and the home of my parents. We remain there today.

Having said that, we do head to Florida for the winter months and reside in Bonita Springs. We truly enjoy the wonderful weather. It allows us to play golf, go to the beach and keep up with our love of the outdoors by biking and running, and watching sunsets on the beaches. Not to mention.... LOVE the shopping in the area!

Ok... on to the kids. Lori, our oldest daughter, graduated from ISU about 3 years ago and remarried in June of 2010 to Ted Semke. Ted and Lori have 6 children together and live next door to my folks so you might say..... we all live very close on the "Munson Compound". The oldest of the kids, and our oldest grandchild is Andy, who is 17. Rachel is 14, Kaitlyn is 11 and Emily will soon be 10. Spencer Semke is 15 and Carter is 13. They do have a busy household with nearly all the children in their teens!

Our son Josh and his wife Karin just had #5 child last November. They have 4 boys and now a beautiful little girl, Billie Charlene. Skyler, their oldest is 9, Lucius is 7, Sem is 5 and Mickey is almost 3 years old. ( gee I hope I am getting all their ages correct!) Josh is a firefighter in Colorado Springs and drives the "big red fire truck"! He is also an Endurance Coach. In 2010 and 2011 he ran AZ Ironman. We were there to cheer him on! This year he is registered to do Leadville 100 MILE run. Just wild!

Kati and Casey have 2 little girls. Mackenzi, 4 and Hayley, 16 months. They live in Hahira, GA. Casey is a field rep for John Deere. Kati is a stay at home mommy. They love it in the south. Kati ran a REV 3 Half Ironman in Anderson SC this past October. We were fortunate to be there to share the experience with her! Simply amazing! It's Casey's turn to train this year.... he is hoping to do the Leadville 100 MILE Bike Ride Across the Sky in August of this year. When we are in Florida..... we are just a few hours drive from their home. Gotta love that.

I mentioned Josh is an Endurance Coach. Bravely, he has taken on his mother.... ME.... as one of his "athletes"..... she said with tongue in cheek! Last July, Kati and John convienced me to do the Walt Disney Princess Half Marathon! Talk about crazy! Since then, Josh has been coaching me, supporting me, and encouraging me every step of the way. I had to take a couple months off early on. Fractured my ankle and tore tendons! I am healthy and back training! Good thing.... the Half Marathon is Feburary 26th. Kati along with her mother in law, Barb, will be doing the run also! We are so looking forward to doing this together! Have to give a shout out to John, as he has been such a great supporter and training partner! Needless to say, golf has been on the back burner for me this season in FL.

John plays as much golf as he can. He does a lot of biking when not on the course and as I mentioned.... is my dedicated training partner. We are still best friends and we are truly enjoying retirement together. So you see.... life is fabulous! We are healthy, kids and grandkids are wonderful. My parents, John and Charlene are still very active. In fact, there are days I find it hard to keep up with them.

There you have it..... hope this finds all of you well. Looking forward to seeing you at the next gathering!

Update 2008:
Greetings all,
Was really great to see everyone who attended our Big 4-0 Reunion last September! Thank you to those of you who gave your time and energy to plan the event! It was greatly appreciated.

It is time I update my bio.....

Since my last bio of 2002 our grandchildren count has doubled from 4 to 8 ! Lori has 4 kiddos, Andrew, Rachel, Kaitlyn and Emily. Josh has 3 boys, Skyler, Lucius and Sem. And our Kati has one little cutie, Mackenzi Grace. These are our greatest blessings to date!

Our oldest daughter, Lori, just graduated from Iowa State with a degree in Animal Science and will be pursuing a career in the swine industry. Josh is a firefighter in Colorado Springs and has finished his AA. Kati and her family just moved to Olathe, KS where Casey works with John Deere Marketing. Kati will be the Director of Major Gifts at the Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

I "retired" several years ago and have turned my attention to the grandkids and things I really like/want to do. John is now the Vice President of John Deere IVS located in Urbandale.

We built a home in Boone south of my childhood home, and are still getting it just the way we want it. We are looking forward to finishing everything so we can enjoy life in the country!

Update 2006:
Children: Lori Winter Nordhoff 31, Joshua Winter 28, Kati Winter 23
Grandchildren: Andrew 7, Rachel 5, Kaitlyn 2, Emily (infant) Nordhoff, “baby” winter (Joshua’s) – due October 2, 2002
Life History: Where do I start? I spent the first 20 years following John around the world as he had a successful career as a Navy officer/helicopter pilot. I kept the home fires burning – raising our 3 children. John retired in 1990 and we settled in Santa Clarita, CA (north of LA). There I began working in a dental office, which has since become my career! We remained in the LA area until fall of 1998. John shifted gears in his corporate career and we moved to Atlanta, GA. Life has brought us full circle and as of June 2001, we returned to Iowa (again with John’s job as he continues to climb the corporate ladder). We now reside in Des Moines. John is a Director with Ag Management Solutions, which is a division of John Deere. I continue my front office work in yet another dental office. Our 3 children are all on their own. Lori and husband Tom Nordhoff live in Colorado Springs with their 4 children. They are a BUSY group! Tome is a rep for Novartis and Lori is a BUSY MOM! Josh and wife Karin also live in Colorado Springs. Josh I a firefighter with the city. He met Karin in Holland while he was stationed there with the Army. They have been married 3 years and are expecting their first child in October. Karin has a double art major. Kati graduated from ISU in December of 2001. She lives in Phoenix and is working for the city of Tempe as an event planner for parks and recreation department. We are happy to be “home” yet we would not have traded our 20 MOVES (with experiences) IN 30 YEARS (!!) for anything in the world. It gave us a greater appreciation of family, friends, and our roots!! We have lived in a lot of places - but nowhere felt as safe and comfortable as the Midwest! There’s no place like home - no matter where it is!
