Public History Internships

Internships are central to both the undergraduate and graduate experience. Based upon your interest, you can gain "real" experience through internships. We have placed students throughout the Cedar Valley, Iowa, and the nation.

Public History Program Certificate students must intern for two semesters, preferably at two distinct institutions. Both undergraduate and graduate students may intern without being enrolled as a History major in either Public History program.

Internships provide many benefits to students:

  • Students have an opportunity to assess a particular work environment before completing their education.
  • Students can gain practical skills for a desired profession in the work environment.
  • Students can identify additional skills they need to develop which would increase their desirability to future employers.
  • Experiential learning provides an advantage in the highly competitive public history job market.
  • Students can begin to build professional networks.
