There are some members of Asteraceae that have only ray flowers or only disk flowers. All but one on this page have only disk flowers while Orange Agoseris has only ray flowers.

Common name, genus and species, and family are given for each flower. If different references give different scientific names more than one will be listed.

  • Mountain Pussytoes phyllaries are pink on the terminal portion. It has 3 to 8 heads in a cluster. It is a common species in dry meadows and open woods from the foothills to timberline.
  • Gayfeather pistils have 2 thread-like purple styles that protrude from the flower giving it a feathery appearance. It is found in dry areas in the foothills and montane zone.
  • Rabbitbrush is an abundant shrub with clusters of showy golden heads in late summer. It has narrow leaves. It is seen along roadsides and fields in foothill and montane zones.
  • Bigelow's Senecio has a nodding head. The disk flowers are yellow. It is fairly stout. It is found in meadows and apen groves of the montane and subalpine zones.
  • Fringed Mountain Sage has finely-divided silvery leaves. The flower spikes are slender and erect. It is abundant in dry meadows and hillsides.
  • Biennial Wormwood has pinnately-divided leaves. It is alien and found in disturbed places.
  • Tasselflower has heads in clusters that are creamy and nodding. The leaves are triangular and toothed. It is found in dry areas and canyon sides of the foothills and montane zones.
